Buying a container - everything you need to know.

Buying a container - everything you need to know.

Buy container – everything you need to know.

Owning your own real estate is a dream of many people, both entrepreneurs looking for a place for their business and individuals who need a summer house, flat or garage. Buying a container, regardless of its destination, can be a great investment. However, before making a choice, there are several factors to consider in order to be satisfied with it for a long time. In the following article you will find everything you need to know about buying a container.

Purpose of the container

The first thing to consider before deciding to buy a particular container model is to precisely define the purpose for which it will be used. Will the facility be used permanently or only periodically? Are there plans to change its location, or will it rather be installed in one destination? If container will it be used for transport or maybe for stationary storage or for residential purposes? For each of the above-mentioned tasks, you need different equipment, slightly different construction and, above all, the right size. It is worth specifying your expectations precisely, this will significantly facilitate the further stages of choosing the best container.

Types of containers available

After determining the purpose for which the container will be used, it is worth getting acquainted with the offer of this type of objects available on the market. In recent years, the popularity of buildings container increased significantly - now they can be an alternative to the entire, broadly understood, traditional construction.

The most common types containers are:

When choosing the type of object for the assumed purposes, attention should be paid to many factors that affect the functionality, quality and durability of the container.

Container sizes

Dimensions are one of the key features that need to be determined before buying a container. Speaking of containers transport, then this unification applies, to which it is absolutely necessary to adapt. The basic sizes used in transport are 20 and 40 foot containers with a standard height or HC versions, i.e. high cube. In the daily work of people dealing with the broadly understood logistics, there are terms twenty and forty relating to length containers. 20 and 40 foot facilities account for the vast majority of all types of containers in use.

The table below presents a summary of the most popular sizes. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the length of the 40ft container has been selected in such a way that two 20ft containers can be placed on it (or under it) while maintaining the appropriate distance (3 inches). When thinking about buying a container for your business, you must choose the right size.

Name Length x Width x Height Volume
20ft (20ft) 20 ft x 8 ft x ft 8,6 in

6,1m x 2,4m x 2,6m

~33m3
40 ft (40 ft) 40 ft x 8 ft x ft 8,6 in

12,2m x 2,4m x 2,6m

~66,9m3
40 ft HC (40 ft high cube) 40 ft x 8 ft x ft 9,6 in

12,2m x 2,4m x 2,9m

~76m3

The situation is different in the case of the dimensions of containers intended for residential, office or social and sanitary purposes. Here, the determinant of the square footage needed is primarily the number of people who will use a given facility. A container intended as an office for a design studio employing 3 people, and a building made of containers for a large trading company that receives many customers every day, require not only completely different sizes, but also a different utility design. Renowned container manufacturers offer several standardized dimensions that can be combined to create buildings tailored to individual needs.

Container construction

Depending on the purpose of the container, it is worth paying attention to its construction. Although its basic features are consistent for most objects, it is worth knowing that there are some differences depending on the manufacturer. And they can be important, especially when containers are used as buildings where people will stay permanently or temporarily.

So what is worth knowing about the purchase of a container intended for residential, office or social and sanitary purposes? First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to insulation. In good quality containers, mineral wool with a thickness of 100 mm in combination with a vapor barrier foil should be the standard. The thickness of the insulating layer is crucial: the insulation will only play its role effectively if the appropriate parameters are maintained. An additional insulating layer is a laminated board, which is fixed from the inside. It must not be forgotten that living container meets high standards, it must also have a proper roof construction.

The second important element of the construction is the issue of strength - only the right parameters construction they give, for example, the possibility of stacking objects. This is of great importance, because on a smaller plot area, you can fit a much larger area house, offices or a warehouse. The frame of such a container should be of adequate strength and welded from 4 mm thick cold-formed sections. But for the whole pavilion was strong, the columns bolted to the upper and lower frames must be made of solid sections (preferably cold-bent, also 4 mm thick).

Functional layout and equipment

Universal building of containers gives a wide range of possibilities to adjust the equipment and functional layout of the interior to the needs of each investor. IN container you can create a comfortable studio apartment with a bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom, but by combining several objects it is also easy to design an over 100-meter sun. There are container pavilions available on the market that allow you to build an ergonomic restaurant as well as an elegant clothing store. In the first case, the facility will not only have an appropriate arrangement of walls and doors, but will also be equipped with a different electrical installation, including: with power sockets.

When buying a container from an experienced manufacturer, it is also possible to adjust the size and number of windows to your needs, add partition walls or expand the sanitary zone, for example with an additional toilet. Such options are extremely important when purchasing sanitary and social containers, where the size and number of sanitary facilities depends on the number of employees.

Remember what you need to know before buying a container

When looking for real estate - whether for private or business purposes - first define your goal. When you clearly specify how the container will be used, you will definitely choose a solution for yourself. Offer pavilions, containers and modular houses is very wide. Choose a reputable manufacturer whose experts will help you create the optimal design.
