Container buildings as seasonal objects - everything worth knowing about them

Jan 10, 2023 | Blog

Bear season, mushroom season, ski season, heating season… what do they have to do with containers? This is, of course, a tongue-in-cheek introduction, but many industries in the economy operate in seasonal cycles, most often related to the season of the year. This is, of course, very broadly understood tourism, but also the construction, cultural and gastronomic industries. Buildings are the perfect solution for each of them container as seasonal objects such as offices services, shops, bars and many, many more.

Why choose container buildings?

Containers as seasonal objects, they have many advantages resulting directly from their construction. These are primarily:

  • mobility
  • ease of assembly and disassembly
  • low purchase or rental price
  • low maintenance costs (during use and storage)

Because mobility matters

The basic assumption of seasonal buildings is ... their seasonality, i.e. their use only for a certain (usually not very long) period. After this period, the facility is moved to a storage place until the next season. For this reason, a key feature that a building intended for short-term operations must have is mobility. Ease of transport, which translates into its costs, is the most important advantage of containers over other solutions. Transport container from place to place does not require very specialized equipment - a car with HDS is enough.

Because they are easy to assemble and disassemble

The second, after mobility, basic requirement for objects used seasonally is the possibility of simple and quick assembly and disassembly. Containers, unfortunately, do not have such properties, and this is because there is no such need. Their great feature is easy transport in their entirety. In addition, they can be stacked, but only if the construction is appropriate. Reputable manufacturers use frames welded from cold-bent sections with a thickness of 4 mm to make the whole pavilion was strong, the columns bolted to the upper and lower frames are made of solid sections (preferably cold-bent, also 4 mm thick).

Because the purchase (or rental) price is attractive

An investment in seasonal infrastructure must be well thought out - the relatively short period of its operation during the year means that the return on costs is calculated differently than in the case of facilities used on a continuous basis. The advantage of containers is their price, both for purchase and rental. For really little money you can get a fully functional building with sanitary facilities and full electrical installation.

Because their maintenance costs are low

Seasonal facilities, regardless of the industry, always have one thing in common: they are unused for a large part of the time. That is why it is so important that their storage during the "standby" period is undemanding and cheap. Here, the issues of heating are of particular importance - when the building is used only in the summer, it should be possible to overwinter it without incurring the costs of maintaining a positive temperature. This assumption is easily met by container buildings. Their steel structure and trapezoidal sheet metal walls are resistant to weather conditions and unlike, for example, cottages wooden, do not require heating in the winter.

What if the building containerized is it only used in winter? Then the costs will still be low. However, only if we choose a solution from a proven manufacturer: properly insulated, with modern, i.e. tight door and window joinery. The optimal construction in terms of thermal insulation should take into account about 100 mm of mineral wool combined with a vapor barrier foil.

Containers as seasonal objects and building permits

Container buildings are often considered - in the popular opinion - as buildings that can be erected without a building permit. And indeed in many cases it is true. However, you must be aware that you are not alone container requires such an interpretation of the law. This is influenced by a wide range of factors that ultimately determine whether a permit is required or whether notification to a designated administrative authority is sufficient.

In the case of seasonal facilities, it is crucial that if the container is used temporarily, a building permit will not be required. Titre temporary clearly defined by the legislature. According to Art. 29 sec. 1 point 7 of the construction law: does not require a building permit, [...] building temporary construction objects not permanently connected to the ground and intended for demolition or transfer to another place - within the time limit specified in the notification, but not later than within 180 days from the date of commencement construction specified in the application. It is clear from this that containers can be placed without a building permit, but only by notification, only if they are moved to another location before the end of 6 months. Importantly, it can be a place within the same plot. Therefore, most seasonal facilities will meet this criterion.
